Banana Fiber Nativity Set This Nativity set is handcrafted out of banana fiber and comes in a 5 by 9 inch handmade banana fiber box. The tallest piece is 5.5 inches high. Handmade in Kenya. The Artisans Esther Kariuki is an independent artisan who organized and trains women in her village to use the fiber of the banana plant, which would normally be discarded. The banana fiber is first dried, and then a light varnish applied. Once this process is complete, craftspeople cut the fiber into thin strips to make a limitless variety of products, including boxes, ornaments and mobiles. Esther ensures her artisans are paid a fair wage for their goods, which has enabled many in her small village to earn a sustanable wage from handicrafts. $45.00
